The New England Acura Dealers had a successful weekend at the 2016 Boston Marathon with partner Boston Children’s Hospital and the Miles for Miracles Team. On behalf of the NEADA – the official automotive sponsor of the 2016 Boston Marathon – Prime Acura, Prime Acura North and Sunnyside Acura provided three invitational entries to the Boston Children’s Hospital Miles for Miracles team. The three runners raised a total of $11,625 that will directly benefit the Boston Children’s Hospital Children’s Fund.
As first time runners in the Boston Marathon, NEADA’s Miles for Miracles representatives included Ryan Hall, 34, of Waltham, Mass.; Karin Tenney-Helfrich, 43, of Exeter, N.H.; and Meghan McGrath, 26, of Nashua, N.H. Ryan completed the race with a time of 05:53:51. Meghan finished with a time of 04:42:33, while Karin crossed the finish line with a time of 05:43:10.
Before the race, Meghan posted on her Facebook page, “With one day to go the excitement and realization is starting to set in that I’m running the Boston Marathon this year! If it weren’t for Acura I would have never have had this opportunity and more importantly would never had the chance to run 26.2 miles for the children at Boston Children’s Hospital and for my patient partner Cori!”
Runners and patient partners of the Miles for Miracles team celebrated during a Boston Marathon kick-off dinner on April 15 at the Westin Copley Place in Boston. The patient partner program pairs kids up who are current or former patients with runners to help inspire them.
“It’s just wonderful to see all the runners and Patient Partners interact and create [NEADA] and Boston Children’s Hospital cheer posters for the anticipated race,” said Reidar Davies, Process Development-Sales Operations of Prime Acura.
On Marathon Monday, patient partners and supporters were in Hopkinton, Wellesley, Brookline and at the finish line eagerly looking for the orange-and-blue checkered jerseys with an Acura logo signifying a Miles for Miracles runner.
“Such kind words and my amazing family and friends at the finish line to cheer me on!! And the amazing Boston Children’s Hospital cheering sections who cheered louder than anyone else on the course! This was truly an amazing experience and one I will never forget! I’m so lucky and my heart is so full,” said Meghan on Facebook.
The support of Miles for Miracles runners helps Boston Children’s Hospital doctors, nurses and researchers continue to innovate patient care, find cures and bring the extraordinary to life. Members of the team raise funds through sponsorships, personal donations and pledges from their families, friends, community and colleagues. Funds raised directly benefit the Children’s Fund, an unrestricted fund that enables Boston Children’s to continue to provide high quality care, lead innovative efforts to research and the discovery of cures, educate the next generation of leaders in pediatrics, and care for the children and families in our local community. The hospital’s Miles for Miracles Team joined the Boston Marathon Official Charity Program in 1996 and since then has raised over $21.4 million.
Since 2012, the NEADA has supported Boston Children’s Hospital by pledging to raise $500,000 over two years for the premier pediatric care and research facility. In Jan. 2015, the association extended their pledge to $1 million over four years for Boston Children’s Hospital. NEADA’s sponsorship of the Miles for Miracles 2016 Boston Marathon team is part of its continued support of Boston Children’s Hospital.
