As a member of the New England Acura Dealers (NEADA), the official automotive sponsor of the 2017 Boston Marathon, Prime Acura North is excited to partner with our friends at Boston Children’s Hospital. From November 2012 to November 2016 the local dealers sold twenty thousand Acura vehicles, completing a pledge to raise $1 million for the Boston Children’s Hospital. NEADA has donated a portion of the proceeds from every Acura sold to the Boston Children’s Hospital Children’s Fund, an unrestricted fund that supports the hospital’s areas of greatest needs in patient care, research and community health.
“We are so excited to once again work with our friends at Boston Children’s Hospital and help them raise valuable funds through Miles for Miracles. We know Ricardo Vasquez (50) and Melissa Skarupa (43) are working hard to be ready for Marathon Monday and raise funds to support the doctors, nurses, and researchers as they continue to innovate patient care, find cures and bring the extraordinary to life to Boston Children’s Hospital,” remarks, Bob Memmolo, general manager at Acura Prime North.
Ricardo’s motivation to run the Boston Marathon for Boston Children’s Hospital stems from his desire to see the best in people. “From children achieving their dreams to people providing inspirational support. My oldest daughter, Jade, was born in Boston and received superb care. We are forever indebted to the memories Boston has provided our family,” reminisces Ricardo.
This will be Ricardo’s first marathon and he has been logging the miles with the family’s yellow lab, Nacho. Ricardo and family are eagerly waiting to get to Boston for Marathon Monday, where they had been stationed during Ricardo’s vascular fellowship. He fondly remembers Boston and is “particularly eager to pulverize Heart Break Hill.”
The Miles for Miracles team has a goal of raising almost $2 million to support Boston Children’s Hospital’s patients and programs. They will be one step closer with Melissa of Merrimack, NH on their team. Melissa is preparing for her fourth Boston Marathon. While she got the call from Boston Children’s Hospital well after most had started training for 2017, she isn’t worried and is committed to completing the race for BCH, her patient partner, and crossing that finish line for all of the children who are fighting the fight right now.
“I was a little afraid of the short training period, my heart told me to run for those who can’t. I will not be fast but I will be all heart. I plan to enjoy every part of the course – yes, even heartbreak hill,” reflects Melissa.
Look out for Ricardo, Melissa and all of our Miles for Miracles Team friends, as they run from Hopkinton to Boylston Street in their orange and blue gear raising valuable funds for Boston Children’s Hospital.
Throughout the year, NEADA will support the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) for this year’s Boston Marathon, B.A.A. Half Marathon, and B.A.A. 5K through advertising and community outreach, as they did in 2016. To kick off this year’s partnership, NEADA hosted a live art show at the 2017 New England International Auto Show where teens and their mentors from local group Artists for Humanity painted a unique mural on a brand‐new 2017 MDX under the theme, ”We Are Boston.” As the official automotive sponsor, the NEADA will provide the official pace cars leading the Boston Marathon, including a 2017 NSX, the painted MDX, and the complete Acura lineup to showcase along the course.
