Prime Acura Selects Runners Who Have A Runners Passion and Bleed ‘We Are Boston’ Spirit

Westwood, MA – April 17 will mark the 121st running of the Boston Marathon and a full day of the New England Acura Dealers spreading “We Are Boston” spirit along the marathon course as the official automotive sponsor of the 2017 Boston Marathon. Among more than 30,000 participants journeying from Hopkinton to the finish line on Boylston Street, attendees will find Taylor Maccario (24) of Nahant, Mass. and Sarah Spangler (46) of Nashua, NH representing Prime Acura.

Johnny Dang, general manager of Prime Acura said, “Everyone in New England knows anyone who laces up their sneakers and has a passion for running also has an aspiration to complete [the] Boston [Marathon].”

Descending from a long line of Boston Marathon runners, Taylor Maccario is part of the third generation of Maccarios to compete in the Boston Marathon. “I come from a family of endurance runners and have watched my brother in law run each year including the year of the marathon bombings in 2013. I think it was then that I saw how powerful running was and how much it brought people together in both celebration and despair,” reflected Taylor.

In 2016, Taylor ran her first Marathon alongside her brother-in-law. When asked about their strategy, she explained that their secret weapon would be at the Mile 25 Hydration Station. “I’m really looking forward to seeing my sister, she volunteers at the hydration station at mile 25, she will give me the energy and motivation to finish out the race strong,” she said. This year’s race will mark Taylor’s second Boston Marathon.

When looking forward to April, Taylor knows she is blessed to have the opportunity to run this sacred course again. Having one under her belt she can’t help reminiscing on all the emotions from Mile 1 to 26.2 and the amazing crowds of people that push runners to keep going.

On behalf of Prime Acura, Sarah Spangler, who understands the prestige and history that comes with running the iconic 26.2 miles, will run her fourth marathon and Boston Marathon alongside Taylor. When she isn’t running she enjoys volunteering at the finish line.

“[The] Boston [Marathon], to me and many other runners, is the Holy Grail of racing. My motivation for running comes from following in 121 years of running greats,” remarked Sarah.

Last September, the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) announced that Kathrine Switzer, who made history by pinning an official race bib and running in the 1967 Boston Marathon – at a time when the marathon was a male-only race – will be competing this year. The fact that this is the 50th anniversary of Kathrine’s historic race and she will be participating this year is not lost on Sarah. “I am honored to be sharing the road with Katherine Switzer,” gushed Sarah.

If that wasn’t motivating enough, Sarah has a great methodology when she creates a race plan. “When I run a marathon I dedicate a mile to each person it helps. When struggling or tired, I think of that person and it carries me along,” she explained. Her big motivators this year will be her niece, who just had hip surgery, and her good friend Copper, who has the chronic seizure disorder Dravet Syndrome.

“We are very excited to provide bibs to two ladies who embody the spirit of the Boston community and the passion to excel on the course Marathon Monday,” commented Dang.

Throughout the year, NEADA will support the B.A.A. for this year’s Boston Marathon, B.A.A. Half Marathon, and B.A.A. 5K through advertising and community outreach, as they did in 2016. The eight dealers of New England are also excited to usher in the marathon spirit with the Set the Pace Sales Event starting March 13th. As the official automotive sponsor, the NEADA will also provide the official pace cars leading the Boston Marathon. Make sure to stop by one of their five booths during marathon weekend to experience the 2017 NSX in virtual reality or make a cheer sign for one of your runners.
